TCCHS SCIENCE TEACHER NAMED “INNOVATOR-OF-THE-YEAR”
Renee Boogren, science teacher at Troy College & Career High School, was honored among 100 grant recipients in the Troy School District as “Innovator-of-the-Year” by the Troy Foundation for Educational Excellence last week.
Boogren received grant funding for hands-on equipment for her Astronomy students. She also piloted an evolution unit with the University of Utah Genetic Science Learning Center developed through a grant by the National Science Foundation.
Additionally, Boogren’s environmental science students just finished their River Rouge water quality study and will share data with other participating high schools and Michigan Rouge Educational Project personnel in conjunction with U of M Dearborn. Most recently, Boogren has been selected to attend this year’s REACH workshop to study genetics and the newest research at U of M in June.
In addition to teaching at TCCHS, the award recipient also teaches biology lab classes at Wayne State University.
