Focus on Engagement

At TCC, we do not wish to be a ‘sit and get” educational institution. Everything we do is focused on engaging our students. With their classmates, their teachers, and their community. Our learning environments-Music studio, art studio, wood shop, tech center, library, podcast room, fitness center, as well as all of our classrooms and other spaces are created with student engagement in mind. We strive to make our spaces exciting, and student centered. We use the latest in technology to offer students the opportunity to engage and explore their learning as it relates to automation and the ever changing world of tech. We provide social/emotional learning, career exploration, and community engagement activities in ways that provide students opportunities to actually participate, not just read about. Whether its with social justice initiatives, field trips, or inviting industry mentors in to collaborate with our students, we at TCC strive to make our school exciting in real time. Focused on all of the opportunities that make learning truly engaging.

Class Size

At TCC, we focus on smaller class sizes that prioritize relationship centered learning environments. Our students need to be heard, and understood so that we can best fit their individualized learning needs. This can be best achieved through smaller class sizes where teachers can reassure their emotional safety, build strong relationships, and cultivate their self confidence. By doing this and prescriptively intervening with appropriate learning strategies, TCC can undoubtedly make the difference your student needs in their lives.

Credit Recovery

TCC is focused on competency based learning instead of traditional seat time learning. What that means is that students can earn new credit and restore lost credit quicker than traditional models. Most importantly, they can do this with the feeling of really “learning” the skills that are so important to life after high school. By collaborating with the MDE, TCC teachers are modeling their curriculum and learning projects based on the actual learning competencies that educators, industry professionals, and post secondary institutions value most. This approach is not only helpful for credit recovery needs, but it is empowering for all students who seek the necessary growth to be successful in life after they graduate-Whether its in college, a job, or training academy.

Choices

At TCC, we offer different options for our student’s learning needs. We have our in-seat program, our online hybrid program (Inspire) for those students who have mitigating circumstances that interfere with them coming to school regularly, and our fully online programming for those students who are most interested in exclusive remote learning. We also offer dual enrollment opportunities, work based learning, and for those students who want career and technological training academy experiences, our students are afforded the opportunity to learn at Oakland Schools Technical Campuses.
